NOT: Work-Life Balance. Yuck. I always hated this phrase. Isn’t it all really just life? Very fun list. : )

  • Ike Says:

    I’m honored.

For a moment, as I scrolled down, I was concerned that I was going to be listed as “Social Media Tool.”

  •

    Hot – Social Media selectivity
    Not – Keeping Score

  •

    Absolutely flattered!

Nice twist on a 2009 trends post – I like it.

    How about this one…

    Hot: ROI Measurement
    Not: ROI Measurement

  •

@Ike – Yeah, that would have been bad for your personal brand.

  •

Is Seth going to beat me up now? I don’t want to be on the bad side of a guy with a gajillion dollars and a grudge.

Thanks, Geoff. You know how to make a girl feel good. And by good, I mean oppressed by the newly formed expectations of your readership. But hey, it’s all good. :P

  • Arik H Says:

Hot: Consultants who listen, partner and collaborate
Not: Consultants who preach, tell and don’t understand the business

    Back to basics!

  •

Hot = “de-friending”- culling out some names to focus on quality of your network vrs. the quantity

Not = “friend sluts” – friending or following everyone connected to you in any sort of tangential way in the hopes that a big friend/follower count makes you look super cool.

  •

    Blogging Trends (Authorship)

Hot = Individual bloggers and voices – either solo bloggers or distinct individual voices on collective blogs

Not = Borg blogs (think about it)

  • Sonny Gill Says:

Love it! Minus the whole iPhone thing but I already know you hate it.

    Hot – Value
    Not – ‘Authority’

  •

Hot: Who knows? A year is a long time.
    Not: Tony Danza

  •

Hot:Web Developers and Branding companies who future proof and include an editing suite for their customers websites

Not: Web Developers and Branding companies who claim companies websites are their own intellectual property, don’t include or advise companies to have editing access and then charge eye watering amounts for simple editing and updates.

  • Liz Says:

Yeah! An end to personal branding=one dimensional personalities. Can not happen too soon!

    Hot: Lasting connections & collaborations
Not: Ephemeral, “you friend me, I’ll friend you”, use-based relationships

    No? Well, one can hope!

As much as I eschew the iPhone, it is functionally still hot. Sorry bud.

I am still chuckling about the thought that Ike is a social media tool, very funny. Oh, and you should have pics of Aaron and Ike side by side. Hee. Technosailer a PR guy, so funny.

  •

Hot: Real people helping others make a living
Not: Guy, Robert et al. pontificating and ignoring

  •

@Kami They said that about the RAZR, too, you know.

  •

So personal balance is “not hot?” Does that mean we are all unbalanced? Hmmm… you may be onto something! :-)

  •

I love my BlackBerry Storm even if I can’t get the *uber-useful* apps like Bubble-wrap or iFart like iPhone users can.

  • Lee Says:

    Hot–giving
Not–receiving, although the more you give the more you will receive

  • Todd Says:

Hot – Using DMs on Twitter or IM to converse with a single person if conversation has a very narrow appeal to your Twitter community

Not – Using Twitter as chat, abusing the @, addressing a single 20 times in a row, or 20 people with @ replies, all in rapid succession.

SUPER HOT – Being banned from Twitter for using it like chat.

  • Barbara Says:

Ditto on the hot is “giving” with add-on (from yesterday’s post) that ammado’s integrated combo of giving + social media + global + CSR is hot. Thanks, Geoff!

  •

I call ‘inside information’ on nailing the hot marketing blogger AND hot corporate social tool. No way Geoff is smart enough to call that ;)

  •

@Mack I wrote the post a week ago Friday in the Virgin Islands (in fact, all of this week’s entries were written there), and include Amber and Radian6 at that time. I had no idea about their discussions when I wrote them in.

  • Brian Null Says:

    i think i’ve seen this complex before… :)

    Blackberry is to the iPhone

    as

    Jersey is to New York…

    :)

  • Toby Says:

    Hot: niche communities
    Not: social rudeness

  •

“Hot: Community collaboration; Not: Personal branding”

    I completely agree!!

  •

Dude- I am so a hot PR *and* Marketing blogger. Give me some street cred. ;)

  •

I’ve always thought Amber was hot. Now your post confirms it!

  •

    What’s hot: funky abbreviations
    What’s not: bad spelling
