Goodness Gracious, Great Blogs of Fire!

2008blogsoffire3 Bitemark’s Kristin Maverick reveals her vision for the future of social media. Acknowledging social media as a new world yet to be explored by the majority, Kristin says the interest level will eventually peek and people will ‘close the laptops, sign off the social network and disable Twitter updates on the cell phone.’ One example Kristin mentions is her reaction to reading about the ‘new publishing journal,’ Plurk and how she had her ‘first social media “not another one” moment.’

Jennifer Mattern of Naked PR discusses whether or not PR is a lost cause. In light of some apparent negative buzz regarding PR stereotypes, Jennifer believes that it is important for fellow PR pros to focus on education (especially with PR students) rather than regulation. She states, “…if I can grow a set and stand up for ethical PR practices without industry-imposed regulations, there’s no good reason you couldn’t too.” Jennifer also encourages the bigger firms to set the example for the young PR folk since they are what students ‘strive to become.’

Simon Collister discusses the real role of PR consultants in a social media world in his blog, Simonsays. He believes that the ‘real role’ of PR consultants are as ‘natural communicators.’ Simon says, “Instead of focusing our effort on converting people in roles that are traditionally siloed, should we – as PR consultants – instead be tasted with identifying an organization’s natural communicators and empowering them (or helping their employer empower them) to speak authentically on their employer’s behalf.”

One of the top explanations of social media can be seen on Sundog’s blog. This quick tutorial video uses the different flavors of ice cream to explain social media in plain English. The recording was also created by the man behind Podcasting in Plain English and Twitter in Plain English, Leelefever.
