Six months ago we wrote up the “top 12″ DC marketing, social media and PR blogs as ranked by Technorati authority. Oh, how little we knew. This new top 12 16 list should demonstrate how strong DC’s social media scene really is!
Blogs must be in the Greater Washington area (Baltimore included), must feature marketing related content somewhat regularly, and have approximately a 100 Technorati authority (as of 11 p.m. Friday, November 16). We’re including Chris Abraham because he just moved to Germany and this is his U.S. base of operations.
1) Technosailor (Aaron Brazell) – 800
2) Influential Marketing Blog (Rohit Bhargava) – 710
3) BlogWrite for CEOs (Debbie Weil) – 444
4) Somewhat Frank (Frank Gruber) – 378
5) The Buzz Bin (Geoff Livingston & Company) – 300
6) Katya’s Non-Profit Marketing Blog (Katya Andersen) – 248
7) Because the Medium is the Message (Chris Abraham) – 216
8) Presto Vivace (Alice Marshall) – 177
9) Ogilvy PR 260 Digital Influence Blog (Rohit Bhargava, John Bell, Kaitlyn Wilkins & Company) - 158
10) Digital Influence Mapping Project (John Bell) – 157
11) Marketing Conversation (Chris Abraham & Company) – 147
12) Verge New Media (Jim Long) - 126
13) Now Is Gone (Geoff Livingston & Friends) – 120
14) Advercation (Peter Corbett) – 116
15) The Webpreneur (Nick O’Neil) – 96
16) Catch Up Lady – (Kaitlyn Wilkens) - 91
It should be noted that Susan Reynolds belongs in here. Her URL – http://susanreynolds.blogs.com/ - registered more than 500 reactions, which would seem to pretty much guarantee approximately 175-225 authority. However, Technorati probably borked and would not recognize her blog listing. Otherwise this would have been a top 13 list!
And then we would have included another Ogilvy blogger, Kaitlyn Wilkens, whose blog currently has a 91 authority ranking. Why? Because having a top 13 list is unlucky! Strike that! Kaitlyn’s been added thanks to Qui’s comments below… We added Katya’s Non-Profit Marketing blog, and we can’t have a top 13 list. We also added Nick O’Neill’s Webpreneuer and Peter Corbett’s Advercation (they just keep coming out of the woodwork). Let’s get all of the great local marketing blogs that qualify.
It should be noted that Technorati rankings in general are not accurate measures of traffic and performance.

Geoff,
You honesty (disclaimers) in creating this list are to be admired. All the more reason to read these blogs: Readers know you have made an honest effort. I’m impressed.
Thanks, Lewis. Just a cool way to catch a glimpse of the local scene. You guys should do this for the NYC metro region.
Thanks, Geoff. I like this list better than the last as I think it’s more relevant. I don’t know that I’m qualified to be in the top position on either but I do appreciate the vote of confidence.
@conversationage on Twitter wanted you to do one for Philly. Frankly, that wouldn’t be fair to you but it got me thinking that something like this would be extremely useful for major cities. NYC you mentioned for Lewis. I know a bunch of the folks in Philly and could maybe wing it on that. But really it would be useful to get hyperlocal views on Great Blogs of Fire in other regions.
Geoff! You forgot Katya Andresen’s Nonprofit Marketing Blog, weighing in at 248 “authority” as of this exact moment. http://www.nonprofitmarketingblog.com. Focused on charitable marketing efforts, but relevant to humankind =)
Congrats Aaron! And Debbie, Jim, you Geff, my OPR companeros.. well it’s a good day for the iDistrict isn’t it?
Aaron, it would be cool to get that going… As you know it takes getting a good handle of the scene because so many bloggers seem to come out of the woodwork.
Qui: Thanks, buddy. I edited the entry, added Katya… and consequently Kaitlyn, too.
wow! it’s odd to me that i would’ve ever made a list like this! I have to say, good thing it wasn’t a top 10! ;-)
DC, or the iDistrict as Qui has named us, is a vibrant, emerging force in the social media landscape. Onward and upward!
What qualifies people for this list? Does my blog about Facebook not count? (http://www.allfacebook.com) or how about my other one about entrepreneurship and social media (http://www.thewebpreneur.com)?
Nick, as stated above 1) this subjective 2) your blog must be about social media or traditional marketing and PR, and 3) you must be in the greater Washington area. I did not even know of your blogs until your comment.
To be 100 percent frank, I’m not sure I’d count AllFacebook because it’s not marketing or PR oriented. It’s a news mechanism covering Facebook. For those same reasons we don’t include blogs like DCBlogs, DCist or Wonkette which are also local and well ranked, yet not on topic.
I do think Webpreneur is more on topic, but it’s borderline as a person journal/CEO blog. You do seem to cover PR and marketing periodically so I have added it.
Perhaps my blog http://www.advercation.com qualifies?
She’s got a 116 authority…
http://www.technorati.com/blogs/www.advercation.com
I’ve neglected it a bit since the launch of http://www.istrategylabs.com but it’ focused on advertising, marketing, and social media.
Peter
You are added, Peter!
Perhaps we need a Social Media top 14 and a Marketing top 14?
I could definitely see Nick’s Facebook blog being on the Social Media top 14. Maybe even number 1 (heaven forbid!) ;-)
Great list! Thank you.
Thanks for the support Aaron! ;)
Chris Abraham lives in Germany now and should be take off the list.
Thanks for the shout out Geoff – a Top 16 List is so much cooler than a Top 10 anyway (especially when I’m bringing up the rear!)
Will need to check out some of the others on here – good suggested reading. :)
great list! alot of familiar faces..
my blog http://www.jess3.com/blog is more of a cool hunting / design related blog.
Hey Geoff, I’m flattered to be penciled in, no matter what kind of search engine juice I get.
Besides, I’m such a small time operator I *have* to take the position that “It’s all a one to one thing anyhow”.
In the end, if people like what I say, think I make a good point once in awhile, and drop by for a read, I’m good. Being pointed out by others who do what I do on a bigger scale is icing on the cake and I thank you for that.
(I could use someone to tell me why technorati alternately loves and hates me though)
@Aaron: We should talk about this!
@Mark: Abraham Harrison still has staff here, so there blog works. And as I said, Chris flies back regularly and still considers this a home. He counts for 6 mos.
@Kaitlyn: You rock!
@all Jess has an excellent blog, check it out. He’ll be in this list next time.
@Susan You are awesome. I am so glad we’ve become Twitter friends.
As I have noted previously, this is the “District of Communications.” Great list. We’ll keep dishing it up at the diner!
Best, Chris
