Digg It!
What is there not to like about Digg – it’s all about making friends. I learned a lot about the portal of user powered content this week for a client who is interested in getting ‘Dugg.’
There’s a science to it. A lot of people try and can never make the front page of Digg. Then, there are others who have success time and time again. Fuzzy Future compiled a list of the Top 10 Techniques for Reaching the Digg Front Page. JohnTP.com offers his tips from a Top 10 Digg User and Earner’s Blog offers a detailed 15 Way to Become a Digg Power User In Only 48 Hours.
A lot of the suggestions are similar. The number one piece of advice offered is to write something worth reading. Lists and ‘how to’ pieces are also extremely popular because they are easy to digest quickly. These, as well as writing short and punchy engaging headlines, are probably the top pieces of advice for getting on the front page.
Some other advice includes:
- Ask Friends to Digg for You. While making friends is important, getting them to Digg is equally important. But be careful not to get the same friends to Digg each time. One way to find Digg friends in from forums, social networking sites or school.
- Time of Submission. NetBusinessBlogger has found success submitting his story around midnight, which means it has good exposure on the upcoming stories section, but also means it will be hitting the front page the next day, at peak hours.
- Make It Easy. Problogger says putting social book marking icons at the end of your posts can be the difference in getting on the front page or not. He doesn’t use them, but if one of his posts rises in the number of Diggs, he’ll add a link saying ‘Digg This Here.’
- Celebrate Your Success. If you get ‘dugg,’ subtly announce it on your blog and thank your readers for it.
This is just a handful of what I found. For a complete list of the Top 10 blogs on ‘How to Get Dugg,’ check out Fuzzy Future.

The fourth way is if you can spend a few dollars…Michele, you would heard of this website called UserSubmitter which pays visitors for digging the links of their ‘adveritisers’…
I was curious if this really pays for the advertisers. I was given 4 links to digg (pay is around 50 cents for digging thrice), and three of them made it to the front pages.
Soon after, I made a post on my blog to show the three links that indeed made it to the top. That hardly garnered 20 diggs.

No, I did not know people were paying to Digg. Wow. And, as you say, it appears to work. I find that really interesting. I will check out UserSubmitter, thanks for writing.
